Have you noticed all the unusual (and often tasty) products turning up at our farmers market lately? Of course, any good farmers market is built on a foundation of fresh farm produce, meats and eggs, and the Tilton Winter Farmers’ Market has those basics covered, and more. Beyond the basics, though, local entrepreneurs are finding vibrant farmers markets like ours are a great venue for bringing new and different products to the public.

It’s a win-win proposition. When customers come to the Tilton Winter Farmers’ Market, they’re always struck by the breadth of offerings, and sometimes pretty surprised. This winter, we were joined by Rock Salt Creamery of Sanbornton, with their vegan ice cream. That’s right: it may be cold outside, but it’s the perfect time to sample one of their sweet, healthy, delicious cashew-based ice cream treats! It’s 100 percent organic, raw, and delicious, and they offer many options that are gluten-free—all dairy free, of course. You won’t be disappointed!

After your ice cream treat, you’ll be ready for a warm, crispy cider donut and a cup of freshly roasted coffee. Maybe a gluten-free cookie, or a nibble of artisan cheese? Gourmet popcorn, fresh guacamole and all kinds of savory and sweet treats await you at the Tilton Winter Farmers’ Market. We know you’ll fill your bag with farm-raised meats, vegetables, eggs and all the basics, too, so you’ll go home with a ridiculously yummy assortment of good stuff.

Whichever vendors you choose to support (and we hope you support a bunch), you’ll know that you’re playing an important role in supporting the local economy. Putting a dollar or two directly in the hands of a farmers market vendor is one of the best ways you can support your local economy, while taking home some great products at the same time.

See you at the market! We’ll be there every Saturday through March, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Market Vendors Cooking Up Goodies on Cooks Corner

Throughout the market season, many of our vendors take a brave leap into television fame, promoting their own products as well as our amazing winter farmers’ market. Did you catch Nannie’s Canning Pantry and The Soup Guy on WMUR’s Cooks Corner recently?

Karen Schweizer from Nannie’s Canning Pantry whipped up a recipe of spicy meatballs, using ingredients from her own offerings as well as meats, dairy products and other ingredients from  other market vendors. You’ll find her recipes right along with the video segment, so you’ll definitely want to have a look before your next trip to the market! (And that just better be this week!)

Curtis Gould (aka The Soup Guy) appeared on Cooks Corner earlier in the season, preparing a yummy cream of mushroom and spinach soup. Curtis incorporates as many locally grown products as possible in his gluten-free/vegan soups, which are available hot (or frozen to take home) at the market. You’ll find the recipe for the soup featured in his Cooks Corner appearance right along with the video on the WMUR website.

We love our vendors! Each and every one of them have a wealth of information to share, not only about their products, but ideas for preparing delicious food at home. So, don’t be shy with your questions—they love to share info.

The Tilton Winter Farmers’ Market will be open every Saturday, from 10 to 2. See you at the market!
